This afternoon, I had to clear the painting table. Just after noon, I got a package from the folks at Alien Dungeon with all the stuff to promote
Fanticide! There are plenty of great things in the package, so here's a bit of an unboxing.
 |
| This won't last long |
First, the pile of stuff!
 |
| The whole package |
At the bottom of the pile is the
Warhost Core Rules book, which is a sturdy, spiral-bound edition that just presents the game rules and the warband lists. The full rulebook will have additional background material, rules for creating custom warbands, and other stuff.
 |
| Warhost Core Rules and Cue Cards |
There's also a set of cue cards. You use these to determine the order of activity in the game. There are cards for each type of unit for two warbands and also cards for special events that can happen during the game.
I'll explain a bit more about them after I have a chance to read them and run through some games, but you can see more stuff now on the
Alien Dungeon site.
The package also included a big pile of models, enough to form basic warbands for the Fae and the Liberi.
 |
| The Fae |
The Fae consist of a Satyr Legend, a bunch of satyr stickers and shootists, some brownies, some Bogies, and a Forest Father. There's also a bag of clump foliage to use with the Bogies and the Forest Father.
 |
| The Liberi |
The Liberi have a bunch of centaur shootists and stickers, a few Cheveyo (including one that was packaged separately and labeled as "Substitute Chief"), and a few vultures.
All of the models came with Renedra plastic bases. The models are cast in white metal.
 |
| The Hole Beast |
The last piece in the box was a Hole Beast, which is a combined resin and metal model. The Hole Beast is a piece of terrain that also attacks models on the battlefield that move close to it. In
Fanticide, the hostile terrain can eat you! The Liberi are not attacked by Hole Beasts, but they can cause them to attack other models nearby.
On first glance, all of the models are pretty clean, with very few mold lines overall. They are designed to have enough detail to give the models some character, but not so much that you get overwhelmed painting pouches and bits. The idea is to make them look good but be easy to paint and field quickly.
I want to get these done as quickly as possible, so I cleared the painting table and moved these to the top of the project list. Over the rest of the weekend (or however long it takes to get them done) I'll be posting regular updates on what I'm doing to get these guys all painted and on the table. If all goes well, I'll have reviews of all the models, a bit about building and painting them, and some info about the cards and rules when I'm done. Wish me luck!
