Today I spent some time apartment shopping, so I didn't get much painting or terrain work done. I'm hoping to spend some time on the Liberi tonight, and I did get the crystals masked so I can prime them tomorrow.
Because I want the crystals to stay clear and I want to use a spray primer, I had to mask them. For other projects, I've used a variety of different materials for masking. I'll try to get a post together with some of the different options soon. Because the crystals have smooth surfaces that tape adheres to well, I opted to use some thick masking tape. I tore off small strips and covered the crystals, trying to get the tape as close to the edge of the sand as possible. I folded the excess tape over the top to make sure that all the crystals would be covered and not get painted by the primer.

Tomorrow I'll get these primed and start painting them.
I've been following this series with interest, and learning (or re-learning) a lot about figure detailing. But, what part of California, good sir? Out here, anything on the right side of I-5 is "back east."
ReplyDeleteIf things work out, I'll be up around Palo Alto.
DeleteAh, Central Cal. A lot of rugged coastline to the south of there. San Jose, Big Sur, I especially recommend a weekend in Monterey once in a while. The place is incredible! Busiest small town in America. I lived there for a year as a teen, and try to get back from time to time. Relaxation just soaks in through your skin.
DeleteHere's the rule of thumb: If you're smart and ambitious, you go to New York. If you're ambitious but not smart, you go to LA. If you're smart but not ambitious, you go to San Francisco...
That whole coastline, from just north of LA to just south of SF is incredible. You're going to love it!
Good luck with the job and move.
